Albet i Noya’s La Milana is Catalonia’s best age-worthy wine

Albet i Noya’s La Milana is Catalonia’s best age-worthy wine

We've won the 2019 Gold Vinari for the best red wine with over 12 months of aging

La Milana’s more than 18 months of aging place it in the category of the oldest age-worthy wines. Its peculiar blending of the Ull de llebre, Merlot, and Caladoc varieties (a cross between Garnatxa and Malbec) and its origins on the chalky terraces of the Can Milà de la Roca estate have given it the personality necessary to win the 2019 Gold Vinari for the best red wine with over 12 months of aging.

La Milana 2014 was chosen as the best age-worthy red wine from 948 references from 260 vineyards, chosen from the twelve denominations of origin from Catalonia. In this sense, La Milana also won the Gold Vinari for the best wine from the DO Penedès. Curiously, a few months ago this same wine also won the 53rd Tastavins Contest for the best aged red wine from the Penedès.

It wasn’t the only Albet i Noya wine to win a Vinari award. The Clàssic Penedès Brut Barrica 21 2014 (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) won the bronze medal in the reserve sparkling wine category.
