El Corral Cremat seduces James Suckling's critics

Discovering new ratings for some of Albet i Noya's wines.

 Last May, the renowned wine expert James Suckling had the opportunity to taste some of the wines from the Albet i Noya winery.  He particularly highlighted our Clàssic Penedès El Corral Cremat 2013, which he described as a "serious sparkling wine option in Penedès with an intense brioche and autolysis character. A touch of minerals. Medium-bodied, it has a fine bubble and intense notes of sourdough, white fruit, and macadamia nut". With 93 points, El Corral Cremat is one of the best-rated Catalan sparkling wines.

We recall that this prestigious sparkling wine is one of the most carefully crafted at the winery. It comes from a very special spot in the heart of the Ordal Mountains, which offers us unique terroir conditions to cultivate a xarel·lo capable of withstanding 10 years of bottle aging. With only 3 vintages on the market, El Corral Cremat has received great accolades such as Best in Show (97 points) at the Decanter Awards 2022 and 2023, and it was also chosen as the Best Sparkling Wine of Catalonia in the latest edition of the Vinari Awards of Catalan wines.albet i noya reserva marti

Another wine rated by the James Suckling team is our flagship aged red wine, the Reserva Martí 2019, made with the best cabernets and merlots we have on the estate, which scored 92 points. About this wine, Suckling highlighted "the notes of oak spices, mocha coffee, and chocolate that integrate very well with aromas of black cherry and sweet raspberries. A wine to drink now or to age for the future". We recall that the Reserva Martí is a wine conceived in 1993 following the birth of Martí Albet, the 5th generation of winemakers at Can Vendrell. It has 2 years of aging in French oak barrels and a subsequent 3-year bottle aging. The 2019 vintage has recently been released on the market.

Asian influence

The American wine critic James Suckling established his residence in Hong Kong a few years ago and has a lot of influence in the Asian market. This allowed him to taste two of Albet i Noya's best-selling wines in the Japanese market, such as the Lignum range.

The Suckling team leaned more towards the Lignum Blanc, which they awarded 92 points, highlighting the aromas of "apple slices and ripe gooseberries with hints of melon peel and honeysuckle flowers. Well-structured, medium-bodied with a polished texture. Good volume and length with freshness and elegance. A wine to drink now or to age". The Lignum Blanc is a wine made from the varieties xarel·lo, sauvignon blanc, and chardonnay. The latter has a small passage through wood, giving it body and volume.

About the Lignum Negre, with 91 points, they highlighted that it is a "very rounded wine with aromas of spiced cherries, dried herbs, clove, and a bit of bark. It is medium-bodied with fine and firm tannins. Fruity and seductive with lots of fresh herb and spice character". We recall that the Lignum is a medium-aged red wine made from the varieties garnacha, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot.
